Three Reasons Why

How we work

Every article on this site follows the same process, and it is designed to catch our own mistakes.

Sourcing

Claims link to primary literature: the study, the government fact sheet, the original record. Not a secondary summary, not another blog. Where a figure has a real range in the source, we publish the range rather than the convenient end of it.

If a claim cannot be sourced, it does not run.

Fact-checking

Every draft is checked against its sources as a separate pass after writing, claim by claim. This routinely catches errors, including claims stated more confidently than the underlying paper supports. Those get corrected before publication, and if we find one after publication we correct it on the page.

Handling contested evidence

Nutrition research is observational more often than not, and observational findings get over-read in both directions. Our standard:

Corrections

Articles are dated when reviewed. Substantive corrections are made on the page rather than quietly. Getting something wrong is recoverable; hiding it is not.
